Wikity-Wack

So Noelle is sleeping - woozy from drugs and uncomfortable from the tubes and wires attached to her, as well as the baby in her belly. In a few hours, the pitocin should get started. Now that I'm awake, I am doing not-so-useful research about our nameless son's possible birthdays.

If he is born today (fingers crossed), he will share Melissa's birthday, as well as Theo Van Gogh's, Ray Parker Jr.'s, John Woo's, Wes Anderson's, and Tim McGraw's. It's the day Bach died, as well as two popes. It's May Day and International Worker's Day, but it's also "National Love Day" in the Czech Republic and Lei Day in Hawaii. It used to be a pagan holiday for the celebration of the halfway point between Spring and Summer, meaning it's the day the Northern Hemisphere ends its winter time. People celebrate by exchanging flowers and kisses in lots of countries as a sign of Spring. Other notable events, according to Wikipedia, 1751 – The first cricket match is played in America. 1930 – The dwarf planet Pluto is officially named. 1931 – The Empire State Building is dedicated in New York City. 2003 - In what becomes known as the "Mission Accomplished" speech, on board the USS Abraham Lincoln (off the coast of California), U.S. President George W. Bush declares that "major combat operations in Iraq have ended". I love that last one, but I had no idea that the Lincoln was off the coast of California. Wow. So much funnier now.

If he is born tomorrow, he will share Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's birthday, as well as David Beckham's, Lily Allen's, Dr. Spock's, and Bing Crosby's. It's the day Leonardo Da Vinci, Joseph McCarthy, and J. Edgar Hoover died. Also - 1808 – Outbreak of the Peninsular War: The people of Madrid rise up in rebellion against French occupation. Francisco de Goya later memorializes this event in his painting The Second of May 1808. 1885Good Housekeeping magazine goes on sale for the first time. 1945World War II: Fall of Berlin: The Soviet Union announces the capture of Berlin and Soviet soldiers hoist their red flag over the Reichstag building. German forces surrender in Italy. German forces surrender to the New Zealand Army in Trieste. Nobody gives each other flowers as a tradition on this day. Yet. I'd have to say May 1st ends up being a little more interesting.

I should be more productive. So should you. David Beckham is just two years older than me, and he's had a movie named after him. Of course, a wife and son who have my last name thanks to me - that's plenty good. Now if only my son had a first name...
